There’s a high chance that you’ve heard the notion that a “healthy mind is a healthy body.” While you may be sick of these supposedly inspirational quotes that are plastered across social media, there is some truth to them. More and more people are understanding the importance of having a healthy mind, which is why so many people are turning to mindfulness. So, if you’re currently contemplating your New Year’s Resolution, why don’t you ditch the running shoes and give mindfulness a go?
You’ll feel less stressed
There are some people in this world who go for a run to clear their head and feel less stressed about the day. However, there are other people who feel physically sick at the thought of putting one leg in front of the other in such a fashion. You don’t need to worry about being overtaken by stress, though, because mindfulness can help you out. As you focus on your breathing and each individual thought, you can not only lower your heart rate and focus on your breathing, but you might even be able to make sense of the thoughts that are making you feel stressed.
You might feel more intelligent
While some people think that meditation is a waste of time, there are other people who are very open to the idea - and it’s these people that will often be more successful in life. Mindfulness has actually been proven to improve cognitive function over the years, which is hugely beneficial for those who want to expand their mind and their horizons. By focusing on mindfulness and meditating for just 15 minutes every day, you can improve your brain’s ability to take in the information in front of you, and disregard the information around you that is not important. In short, you won’t be so distracted!
You’ll become more creative
We all love to feel creative, right? There’s nothing worse than coming home from a day of work and feeling completely unmotivated to do anything but slob in front of the couch. By practicing mindfulness, you will actually be able to boost the creative spark in your mind. That’s because mindfulness improves your convergent and divergent thinking - which all link to your creativity. If you fancy being the next Kanye West, Vera Wang, or Salvador Dali, mindfulness could be for you.
You will start to understand yourself
If you ever feel like you don’t have a place in the world, mindfulness should be able to help you with that. If you’re an anxious person who often feels out of their depth, truly focusing on the simple aspects of your body and your breathing could help you understand yourself. Once you’ve understood your bodily aspects, you can then move onto the mind. During your mindfulness sessions, really think about what you want from life. Focus on that, and then plan your next move accordingly.
Mindfulness is for everyone and so much better than unrealistic goals. Why not give it a go this New Year?
